RICHARD K. BRATTEN, CFA, FSA
Regional Managing Director
Richard K. Bratten has worked in the Executive Benefits and Corporate Owned Life Insurance markets for over two decades. Since 1999, he has worked as a National Sales Consultant and a consulting principal at two large national firms specializing in executive benefits and Bank-Owned Life Insurance (BOLI). Before his consulting role, Mr. Bratten worked in the insurance industry for more than a decade as an actuary. He concentrated on developing products for the corporate-owned life insurance (COLI) and bank-owned life insurance (BOLI) markets, as well as new products for the nonqualified deferred compensation market. Mr. Bratten's product development experience includes innovations in general account, hybrid, and separate account designs to meet the unique needs of financial institutions. Mr. Bratten's experience in managing the product design and daily operations of a $3 billion portfolio of BOLI & COLI at a major insurance company enables him to bring a unique perspective to his consulting role.
As an actuary, Mr. Bratten has designed, priced, and filed products with state insurance departments nationwide that are tailor-made for the BOLI/COLI market. His background as an actuary also includes extensive experience in valuation, pricing, investment, and asset and liability management.
As a CFA Charterholder, his expertise in the investment arena allows him to bring in-depth investment analysis into his consulting role. This is particularly important when evaluating alternative investment approaches and conducting due diligence reviews of insurance companies. With his experience as both an actuary and an investment professional, Mr. Bratten is uniquely positioned to educate institutions on the numerous decisions inherent in the Corporate-Owned Life Insurance market.
Mr. Bratten has spoken to many industry groups on topics relating to nonqualified benefits and BOLI. He has also authored papers for various banking publications and associations. He earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Cincinnati. He also attained his MAAA (Member, American Academy of Actuaries) in 1996, his FSA (Fellow, Society of Actuaries) designation in 1997, and his CFA Charter (Chartered Financial Analyst) designation in 2001. He and his wife, Laurie, have been married for over 33 years and have two children: Chelsea (27), a graduate of Hillsdale College, and Cody (24), a graduate of MIT with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.
